The Dragon

David Stone wrote a fascinating piece for Band with narrator and we performed it with our Honorary Patron, Penelope Keith, at the Ben Travers Theatre in 1994. It is called The Dragon, lasts 22 minutes and is still available from Just Music.

Keith Amos

Godalming Band were the first to perform a new work by composer, Keith Amos, in 1989. Pantheon was written for us and we enjoyed presenting at a Charterhouse concert.

In 2000, Keith was commissioned to write for our Youth Band and he produced a 4 movement work entitled, Jazz Suite for Woody. This was first played in December 2000 as part of the Millennium celebrations.

Arranger in residence

Another welcome Scotsman arrived at Godalming Bandroom in 2008. Like our Musical Director at the time, Kevin Mulgrew brought a wealth of brass band experience with him and he sat as top man on the euphonium bench. During his five years with the band, he has arranged many pieces of music for us, many have yet to be performed in public, some have yet to be looked at during rehearsals - we can’t keep up with him !

These are just some of the titles arranged for us during Kevin’s years with the band:

American Patrol, Andantino, At the Sign of the Swinging Cymbals, Entry of the Gladiators Violin Solo, Ashokan Farewell, Overture: Bronze Horse, Vocal Duet: Canzonetta sull’aria, Overture: The Consecration of the House, Entrance March from “The Gypsy Baron”, Finale from Ballet Faust, Euph 80/0: The First Time Ever! Saw Your Face, Flugel Solo: Harlem Noctirne, Overture: Impressario, Flugel Solo: Lady in Red, Les Miserables, Overture: Mack and Mabel, Flugel Solo: My Funny Valentine. Euph.
